Lead the Task: Understanding the Role of Influence in Situational Leadership®
Leadership is not a trait.
It’s not a title.
It’s not a style.
It’s an ongoing decision:
What does the person across from you need right now to win?
Theories are useless in a crisis.
Doing what’s comfortable only works sometimes.
In the real world, that stuff breaks down.
No matter how smart, skilled, or hard‑working you are, you will eventually hit a wall if you don’t adjust your behavior.
After more than 2,000 hours working alongside Marshall Goldsmith—the world’s top‑ranked executive coach and a Center for Leadership Studies alumnus—Mike Mackie introduces a practical, research‑backed model for Situational Leaders® you can use immediately. This session moves beyond theory and into real‑time decision‑making: how to diagnose what someone needs to succeed and match your behavior to help them get there.
.
You'll Learn:
- The Reality of Influence
Why behavior—not personality, values, or intention—is the only lever you have to impact performance. - Diagnosis: The Essential Skill
Leadership isn’t who to be, it’s how to be. Learn how to quickly assess performance readiness and match your behavior accordingly. - The Four Styles of Influence
When to direct, explain, support, or delegate—and how to shift between them based on the situation. - The Two Leadership Traps
Over‑leading high performers (and slowing them down).
Under‑leading developing talent (and calling it empowerment). - The Highest Form of Empathy
Why the most effective—and most human—thing you can do as a leader is give people exactly what they need to succeed. - Beyond the Workplace
How this model applies to parenting, coaching, teaching, and everyday life.
The Bottom Line
Leadership is not about having one perfect style. It’s about understanding the situation and making the right decision in the moment. What does this person need right now to win? This session gives you a simple, practical way to answer that question—and act on it immediately.
