Keith Ellis talks Business Data Analytics
July 18, 2022

Every company collects data. Whether it's who your customers are, what and how they're buying your products, or shifts happening in the current market, data has the power to predict the future of business. So, it's no wonder that business data analytics is one of the most exciting areas of technology today.

Because raw data only paints part of the picture, business data analysts are becoming more in demand. This role combines the technical skills of data science and the strategic thinking of business analysis to focus on the business problems you're trying to solve and the data you’re using to do it.

In this FREE webinar, we're lucky to have IIBA Chief Engagement and Growth Officer, Keith Ellis to dive into what business data analytics is and why there is a growing demand for business analysts that can transform data into meaningful insights.

Keith will share how you can start your career as a business data analyst, the skills you'll need to be successful, and how the IIBA certification can help you hone your craft. He will cover topics including:

  • Who are the IIBA?
  • What is business data analytics, and why is it a growing industry?
  • What is the role of the business analyst in data analytics?
  • What skills do business data analysts need to be successful?
  • What are the benefits of the IIBA® Certification in Business Data Analytics (CBDA)?
  • How to get certified.

Keith was joined by two of SoftEd's experts in this field, Julie Wilson and Colin Garlick.

Take a look at the Introduction to Business Data Analytics course discussed during the session.

Colin Garlick, Knowledge Engineer

I began my career as a biostatistician, but my interest in computer programming made pivoting into the IT space a natural transition. For the last 30 years, I have been delivering software solutions as a developer, designer, and architect. Leveraging my vast knowledge of programming languages, I've designed and delivered systems for businesses in the medical, building, telecommunications, and finance industries. I even created the security and access control system for the first internet café in New Zealand.

Julie Wilson, Knowledge Engineer

For most of my early career, I managed projects to implement payroll systems. I loved untangling the problems people were experiencing within a system to find the best solution. My working experience has helped me see that behind all the data, technology and systems are real people. The human nature of agile and the importance of understanding people - whether they're your leaders, teams or customers, is what I'm most passionate about.
