My background is in technology, and I first came across agile when I was working as a Senior Software Engineer at Thomson Grass Valley. I was tasked with rebuilding a project that relied on a pretty heavyweight process. Using agile methods, we automated a lot of the process, released to market on time, and engineered award-winning digital production software.
After this experience, I realised that I'd actually been doing things the agile way for a long time. It comes naturally to me. Like the agile values, I value the pursuit of excellence - uncovering better ways to make things better and helping others to do it.
I began working as a trainer in 2018. I love teaching, and my biggest strength is pragmatism. Every client and company is different. What worked in one organisation may not work in another, so tailoring and adapting to their context is what I find most fascinating.
My favourite success story is when I used an agile approach to merge two organisations, Seek Asia and JobStreet, focusing on building a positive, united culture. The transformation required us to be responsive and adaptable to change and support people navigating the uncertainty of that change. Not only did the teams reap productivity and financial gains, but they also won the World Agility Forum's 2020 Agile Great Place to Work Award.
Outside of work, I love spending time with my family and going to good restaurants in Kuala Lumpur, where I live. I'm also a bit of a Trekkie! Although any good sci-fi will do. I find whatever I'm involved in, I enjoy engaging with the community. Even in the agile world, I regularly speak at regional conferences and organise meetups for Agile Malaysia.
