Jim Simmons

Jim Simmons,

Knowledge Engineer

Jim Simmons is a trainer and consultant for SoftEd specialising in Agile development.  He has over 30 years of experience leading cross-functional teams in production environments creating video games, interactive media, and enterprise web applications.

Jim has utilised Agile techniques in a wide variety of companies and team structures. His previous roles include producer, program manager, and UX practice lead positions in the United States and New Zealand for companies such as Hasbro, Disney, Electronic Arts, MGM, SAS Institute, Certus Solutions, Resn, Unlimited Realities and PikPok.

Jim was an early adopter of Agile methodologies, given the game industry's need to be user-focused, to develop iteratively, and to prioritise features while working to challenging deadlines. His leadership style engages the entire team in managing and leading the process, which is the natural way in which Agile teams perform and achieve at a high level.

Although the bulk of Jim’s work has focused on design and product creation, he has paid equal attention to technical constraints, planning, budget/schedule management, stakeholder management, and team dynamics. It is this full spectrum of involvement and responsibility that Jim brings to his training and hopes to impart to participants.
