I began my career as a professional stage-lighting designer, then moved into digital marketing. I found that marketing was complex work in many ways. Often, there are few tangible outcomes and multiple campaigns to manage. But by using agile, I had techniques to help keep track of work in progress and metrics to measure success.
When I was working as a Marketing Director, developing and implementing corporate strategies, I started to bring design thinking, scrum and Kanban into my approach. The results spoke for themselves, so I started coaching other people in agile ways of working.
I soon realised that I had a real passion for supporting people on their agile journey and began moonlighting as a digital trainer while still holding down my corporate job. I taught students and trained professionals at Singapore Polytechnic, the Marketing Institute of Singapore, Equinet Academy, and Lithan Academy.
I've been a trainer now for 14 years, and I really enjoy helping leaders understand agile and use it to enable and empower people to create sustainable change. I have worked with global organisations in Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Thailand, including CardinalHealth, Cigna, PepsiCo, and Telkomsel.
One of the things that is really important about agile is how it makes everything visible and transparent. It brings organisational and operational issues to the surface so leaders can tackle them head-on. I'm also a big believer in creating environments where people can learn through play, and I often speak about these topics at agile events and conferences.
When I'm not working, I love listening to music and podcasts, cycling, or reading a good book. My favourite book is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.
