In November 2018, SoftEd launched a new software testing foundation program. We talked to practice Lead, Toby Thompson about the new course.
What can participants expect from our new ISTQB Foundation in Software Testing course?
Our latest software testing course aims to equip testers with the skills they need to be more efficient and effective in their work; finding defects faster, reducing risk and saving time and money. We define what testing actually is and why it’s so important, emphasising the focus on delivering quality software solutions. The interactive nature of the course emphasises learning by doing and aims to solidify learning through ongoing discussions and immersive exercises.
The content of the course is based on the 2018 ISTQB Syllabus which has recently been updated to reflect the current state of the software testing industry. Those who are looking to get certified will have access to our resources and sample questions, so they can test their knowledge before sitting the certification exam.
What will participants take away from the course?
The course covers the basic skills that all testers should have at their disposal including Static testing, Dynamic test design techniques such as White box testing, Black box testing and Experience-based test techniques. We also cover how to manage testing and the tools you can use to support testing activities.
We emphasise the fundamental test principles needed to communicate more effectively as a tester, what it means to be a tester working within an agile team and performing reviews of any software artefact.
All of this is needed to pass the ISTQB Certified Tester Foundation Level (CTFL) exam.
Why is it important for testers to have these fundamental skills?
Learning the fundamental skills, best practices and having a good understanding of the role testing in the software development lifecycle ensures that high-quality, proven software is delivered. This course is recognised as the baseline of knowledge for all testing professionals and promotes consistent and measurable testing practices.
The skills and knowledge covered in the course and the ISTQB Certified Tester Foundation Level certification are highly sought after by employers around the world and provides a solid grounding to progress into other areas such as agile testing or test automation.
Who is the course intended for?
This course is perfect for anyone that needs a practical knowledge of the fundamental concepts of software testing including testers, test analysts, test engineers, test consultants, test managers, user acceptance testers and software developers.
It would also be useful for those who support and work with testers and need a basic understanding of software testing including project managers, quality managers, software development managers, business analysts, IT directors and management consultants.
