Sean Boylan

Sean Boylan delivers Analysis and Design courses. He has been running courses of this nature for over 20 years, involving thousands of public and in-house students, mainly in Australasia, but also in UK and continental Europe.

Sean has been in IT for about 40 years, starting as a machine code/assembler programmer (yes, punch-cards!), progressing into systems analysis, data modelling, team leadership and project management.

From 1977 to 1984, he held the position of application systems development Manager for a large Insurance company (Legal & General) in Sydney, Australia. With a staff of over sixty analysts and programmers, he was responsible for the development and maintenance of the Company’s Life Insurance systems during a period of rapid product change in the organisation.

In 1985 Sean joined an Australian company to run the courses in Structured Analysis & Design. A common theme was “how to help programmers think in Business terms, rather than just in code”. Later he developed further courseware in Data Modelling, Business Process Modeling, Object-Oriented Analysis & Design, in OO Testing and in Enterprise Architecture.

During his time as a trainer, Sean has ‘practised what he preached’ by providing consulting services to clients, particularly in the area of data/enterprise architecture. Clients have included many Government Departments and commercial organizations in Australia and to several in UK, including British Airways, United Biscuits and South West Electricity Board.

He has also been engaged in longer term assignments such as in the design and development of the Water Management System for the Victorian Government where he was contracted as consulting Enterprise Architect over a three year project.
