John Watson

John has been involved both as a “doer” and a manager in ICT (Information  and Communication Technology) since the mid-1960s.  His background includes working in aerospace and defence, finance and banking, manufacturing, local and national government, media, airlines, shipping, port management, mining and forestry, petrochemical plant operation, and process control.

He follows a principle that to be involved in ICT means keeping just ahead of the wave crest of technological advances: but he has also learned not to be one of those who say “It's new: so it must be better than the old.”  A healthy scepticism about the latest methodological “silver bullet” has served him in good stead.

Although he worked as a software developer for many years,  his main areas of interest have moved away from the lower level technical skills of programming and into the higher level skills of project management, requirements engineering, and business analysis.

John gains much satisfaction from helping people and organisations improve what they do: particularly in the areas of business analysis, project management, and requirements engineering.  Feedback from his consulting assignments and courses is consistently excellent.
