STANZ UPDATE - STANZ 2007 & preview STANZ 2008
235 participants attended the annual conference on software
testing - Software Testing Australia/New Zealand (STANZ) in
Wellington and Sydney, 06 - 10 August. Over two days of
sessions and a full day workshop STANZ provided
practical techniques, methods and tips from international and local
software testing experts. Feedback has been very positive, with one senior test analyst commenting "An excellent mix of topics
and speakers, whether you're starting out in the testing world or an
experienced tester looking for those extra "nuggets" of wisdom to
further your skills". To get a preview of 2008 click

RECOMMENDED READING - A great book by Stephen Withall - on Software Requirement Patterns
Aimed at the experienced analyst
who understands the basics of requirements gathering, this book
presents the concept of "Requirements Patterns" - taking the idea of
reusability above the level of software components into the realm of
requirements identification and specification. Withall
presents a number of common patterns in areas such as Information
Requirements, Data Functions, User Functions, Performance and Access
Control of Systems. He provides clear guidelines for utilising
the patterns and details on producing your own patterns for specific
business domains. As Karl Wiegers says in his foreward to the
book "Stephen Withall's Software Requirements Patterns can help the
analyst write better requirements."
The book is available from
Amazon. Click here

HANDY TOOL FOR COST BENEFIT ANALYSIS Business Analysts and Managers
are often asked to prepare Business Cases and include financial
metrics such as Net Present Value (NPV), Return on Investment (ROI)
or Internal Rate of Return (IRR). We are aware some people find a
free tool from Solution Matrix Limited quite useful for these
calculations. The free Financial Metrics Lite tool is
