Agile Testing

How testing is both different and the same in an Agile project environment

Testing is a fundamental part of any successful project - Agile projects included. All of the fundamental concepts and challenges of testing still exist. Learn how to adapt your existing skill set to maximise your contribution in an Agile project environment where you will work on all test levels, change is the norm and short iterations of work continuously deliver working software.

This course is part of the Agile Academy curriculum. Software Education is proud to be a founding partner of the Agile Academy.

Intended For

  • Experienced testers who are involved (or will be involved) in testing on Agile projects
  • Those responsible for testing and quality assurance on Agile projects

Prerequisites

This is not an introductory testing course.  Participants are expected to be familiar with the fundamentals of testing.

Some understanding of Agile practices would be beneficial. For an introduction to Agile practices see our Agile Fundamentals course.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • explain the role of testing in an Agile environment
  • produce dynamic test strategies, plans, scenarios and test cases on an Agile project
  • maximise contribution in all levels of testing, from unit to acceptance in an Agile project
  • coordinate all testing activities within an Agile project.

Content

The course covers the following areas:

  • The Agile lifecycle and its impact on testing
  • Testing from day one - for everyone, not just the tester
  • The involvement of the tester in traditionally non-testing activities
  • Testing stories - acceptance tests and scenarios
  • Testing in the world of conversation rather than documentation
  • Planning and managing Agile testing
  • The importance of regression tests
  • Test analysis, test design and test execution in Agile projects
  • Testing metrics that make sense in the Agile world
  • The opportunity and threat of automating testing
  • Tools to support the Agile tester

Method Used

During this two day course, participants will be exposed to the principles of Agile test strategies and techniques. Lecturing is kept to the minimum necessary; hands-on exercises are used to reinforce and cement the learning experience, utilising a test laboratory* on the second course day.

* Every participant will have dedicated use of a workstation for the lab-based exercises.
